Alan regularly counsels clients on complex transactions, and works with individuals on their personal real estate, family planning and other matters. He was a partner at Hogan & Hartson LLP in the Real Estate Group, and a partner at Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent & Sheinfeld, LLP until that firm’s merger with Hogan in 2002. Alan was also an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom and Schulte, Roth & Zabel. Alan received his law degree at Fordham University School of Law in 1987, where he wrote a published note for the Law Review and received the Lewis Lefkowitz Scholarship. He received his undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Albany, graduating Summa Cum Laude and with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Alan lives in Syosset, New York with his wife and two sons.

Prior to opening The Law Offices of Alan Schacter, P.C., Alan was General Counsel and Executive Vice President of GFI Capital Resources Group, Inc. and it’s affiliates. While at GFI, Alan had primary responsibility for all legal issues that confront a diverse company with hundreds of employees, including ensuring the successful closing of purchase, sale, finance, leasing and other transactions through both the management of outside law firms and assuming primary document responsibility on deals; managing and strategizing with outside counsel on litigation matters; handling employment contracts and disputes and working with GFI’s brokers on structuring their transactions; developing and negotiating forms of commission, listing and non-circumvent agreements; and managing the corporate records for almost 200 entities.
